It’s time to announce CLCV’s 2012 endorsements!
After careful consideration of all of the candidates participating in our rigorous endorsement process, we’ve endorsed the best and brightest environmental champions for state Assembly and state Senate in the 2012 primary elections. CLCV is already hard at work to elect these leaders, who are committed to protecting California’s land, air and water, safeguarding our health by reducing our families’ exposure to toxic chemicals, and championing California’s transition to clean, alternative sources of energy.
The combination of redistricting and open primaries will produce an unprecedented number of competitive races for the legislature in 2012, which represents a unique opportunity for CLCV to elect a conservation majority to the legislature. We believe our slate of endorsed candidates will play a critical role in defending our state’s bedrock health and environmental protections, moving us away from dirty energy to clean and renewable sources, and protecting California’s natural heritage for future generations.
We’re announcing our endorsements just one week after releasing our 2011 Environmental Scorecard, which scores California’s lawmakers and Governor Brown on their performance on priority environmental bills in the most recent legislative session. The Scorecard serves as an important accountability tool for legislators and factors heavily in CLCV’s endorsement decisions. Check out the scores of those running for re-election to see how they performed in 2011 — it’s a good indicator of how they’ll vote on environmental bills in the future, and whether or not they’ll earn CLCV’s endorsement.
