OAKLAND, CA – The California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement regarding Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon’s appointment of Veronica Padilla-Campos to the South Coast Air Quality Management District (South Coast AQMD) Governing Board.

Statement from Mary Creasman, Chief Executive Officer, EnviroVoters:

“EnviroVoters is thrilled with Speaker Rendon’s appointment of Veronica Padilla-Campos to the South Coast AQMD Governing Board. For too long, the board has made decisions that benefited the interests of corporate polluters and profits at the expense of the 17 million Californians—almost half the population of California—that they represent. We applaud Speaker Rendon’s decision to appoint a proven champion for environmental justice.

Padilla-Campos is a local progressive advocate who will work towards environmental justice and creating clean jobs in our state. Her appointment is a significant step towards improving air quality for our communities and families.

Padilla-Campos is an excellent choice, and we are hopeful that this is just the beginning.”

California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
