EnviroVoters STATEMENT ON APPOINTMENT OF ROB BONTA AS CA’S ATTORNEY GENERAL
OAKLAND, CA – The California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement regarding Governor Newsom’s appointment of Assemblymember Rob Bonta as California’s next Attorney General.

“Today, Governor Newsom appointed Assemblymember Rob Bonta to be California’s next Attorney General, and we are thrilled by this excellent decision.
Bonta has been an environmental champion for California’s families with a proven track record of centering climate and equity in his work. As Deputy City Attorney in San Francisco, Bonta protected California consumers, worked to prevent racial profiling, and uplifted marginalized communities. As Assemblymember, Bonta has consistently led on key legislation to advance climate justice and protect our future.
California’s Attorney General has an important role to play on the environment, both at home and on the world stage. Our Attorney General must stand up for climate justice in communities that have been disproportionately affected by pollution, defend our climate laws against the fossil fuel industry, enforce progress on clean air and water, and continue the work to repair the environmental damage done by the last administration.
We thank Xavier Becerra for his leadership in making environmental justice a top priority, and Rob Bonta’s experience and impact has demonstrated that he will build on and continue this legacy as we gear up to fight climate change. We look forward to continuing to work with him in this critical role.”
